Description: Yellow iris was introduced to North America from Europe and northern Africa. It is used as an ornamental and escapes to pond edges and wet areas. It has a large showy yellow flower with flat leaves and can grow to over 3 feet tall. Yellow iris is toxic to ingest and can cause skin irritation if handled. It is highly undesirable because it can dominate an area, displace other beneficial native plants and spread to new areas.
Chemical Control Options: Glyphosate, imazapyr or 2,4-D.
Mechanical Control Options: Cutting and digging are only temporarily effective due to rhizomatic growth.
Biological Control Options: There is not a good biological control option.
